Using Flodesk? Set up This One Thing ASAP!

Are you using Flodesk to send emails to your people? I hope so…because I love it and think it’s the best email marketing platform (and I’ve….ahem…used ’em all! You can take 50% off your first year with my Affiliate Link).

But there’s this one little thing that I keep seeing people forget to set up when they start using Flodesk…and to be honest, it goes for pretty much every other platform out there, too.

Did you know that you can set up options for people who want to unsubscribe? This is important because if you don’t set this up, anyone who “unsubscribes” will be removed from all of your lists, in their entirety, forever. But setting this up will allow them to choose what type of communication they want to receive, or how frequently.  Maybe they just don’t enjoy this one particular sales funnel they ended up in. Or they want to hear from you less frequently. Or they only want messages about a certain topic.

You can set up a preferences page that lets them control this, and it’s super easy to do.

If you aren’t sure whether you’ve made this mistake, try this: find a message you sent recently (I just searched my inbox for my most recent newsletter). Scroll to the bottom of your message. If it says “Unsubscribe” then you don’t have this setup. If it says “Unsubscribe or Manage Preferences” then you have set up the option. However, you should click on “Manage Preferences” to see what options you are offering to people. If you haven’t customized them, you should do that!

In the video below I’ll show you what this looks like, where to make these changes, and how I have it set up for my business:

If you don’t want to watch the video, here are the steps:

  1. Log in to your Flodesk account.
  2. Click on your profile photo in the top right.
  3. Click on “Opt-in Setup”
  4. Scroll down to the third message template, “Preferences Page” and click Edit.
  5. Add or edit options, and create coordinating segments so that you can sort and organize people accordingly.

Hope that’s helpful! Ultimately you don’t want to annoy people with your emails — so giving them options will help ensure you’re contacting them at the right time in the right way.
