Hopefully by now we are all aware of the importance of both protein and collagen in our life. While I have a protein smoothie 3-4 times per week, I also like to make drinks that contain collagen peptides. Collagen peptides have several health benefits, such as boosting the metabolism, helping to increase muscle mass, improving the health of your skin, hair and teeth, reduce joint paint and degradation and aiding in liver health.
My favorite source of ready-to-drink (or eat) collagen peptides is the Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides powder. While you can stir the flavorless powder into anything, I find that I’m kind of particular about what I enjoy it in. I’ve found that I really enjoy a small amount stirred into greek yogurt, or blended into agua fresca. The recipe below is one I’ve been making non-stop this summer. It’s really refreshing on a hot day and is the perfect (healthy) drink for me to sip beside the pool. This recipe has the healthy benefits of the Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, the strawberries, the fresh lemon/lime juice and also the fresh local honey. Honey created by local bees contains the pollens that are likely in your air, which can help you with even the most subtle of summertime allergies as well as just helping prevent allergy symptoms throughout the season. Cheers!
10 oz cold water
5 ice cubes
5 whole strawberries
Juice from 1/2 lime or lemon (whatever you have, either is delicious in this recipe!)
1 tbsp local organic honey
1-2 scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
Combine in your Nutribullet, blend vigorously, then sip and enjoy!
I was not provided this product for free — I bought it was my own real money! However, Vital Proteins has since reached out and offered to send me some additional products to try. So, watch for more reviews of their awesome goods!
