Are you a protein shake person? When my weeks are crazy I usually find myself tossing one together for rushed breakfasts or lunches. The problem with being a protein shake person is that if you consume them regularly you can find yourself getting in a flavor rut and boredom takes over. This week I committed myself to coming up with a new combination that would delight the taste buds. The basil overflowing from my garden called my name, and this Strawberry + Basil Smoothie was the result. It might sound like a weird combination, but I promise you that the basil is subtle, mixes well with the strawberry and vanilla flavors, and gives it a refreshing, earthy taste!
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, frozen into cubes
8-10 frozen strawberries
2 fresh basil leaves
1/2 scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder (I use Profit)
1/2 cup of water
option: ice cubes to make it thicker, fresh spinach leaves to add more greens.
DIRECTIONS:
Blend it all together and then enjoy, silly.
