MIXED BERRY AND DATE SMOOTHIE

Smoothie Recipe: whip up this smoothie filled with berries, dates and flax seed!
In case you haven’t noticed, smoothies are all the rage. Particularly the green smoothie. But today we’re gonna give credit to the non-green smoothie, to the original, if you will. Smoothies are an awesome way to start your morning. They’re quick. You can take them on the go. They are adaptable. It’d be pretty hard to find a person who just didn’t like smoothies – there are so many combinations. Lately, this mixed berry date smoothie is really hitting the spot. Instead of using juice or milk, we can use water and because the berries and dates have so much flavor, we can hide wonderful, nutritious flax seeds right up in there and nobody will know (great for kids or picky husbands). Dates can be a little hard to come by and in some areas, expensive, but Earthbound Farm has a really great smaller bag for a great price that I hope you can find. One thing is for sure, you won’t regret buying them, because they are so dang good in this smoothie and if you’re lucky, you won’t blend quite enough and you’ll still have a few tiny little pieces of chewy date creeping up your straw. Mixed Berry Date Smoothie
makes one large or two small smoothies

2 ripe bananas
2 Tbsp. ground flax seeds (flaxseed meal)*
1 1/2 C cold water
2 C frozen mixed berries (or any frozen fruit)
6 organic pitted dates

Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend well for at least two minutes. Taste and check for consistency. If you feel it isn’t sweet enough, feel free to add a little bit of honey and if it isn’t thick enough, a scoop of vanilla yogurt or an extra banana should help.

*Store your flax seeds in your freezer and they will last forever.
